The British Truck Racing Championship roared into Thruxton Circuit over the weekend of July 5th–6th, delivering high-speed drama, fierce rivalries, and a jaw-dropping battle for the podium in Division 1. Known as the fastest circuit in England, Thruxton didn’t disappoint and neither did MV Racing’s Tom O’Rourke, who stole the spotlight in spectacular fashion.
As a main sponsor of MV Racing, Fruehauf was once again proudly represented on the grid, with its branding carried on O’Rourke’s International Navistar throughout the weekend.
Heading into the weekend, the championship was tightly contested. The top five drivers; Ryan Smith, Stuart Oliver, Tom O’Rourke, David Smith, and John Bowler had all shown dominance in the 2025 season. Every race over the weekend was a gladiatorial battle, with podium spots constantly changing hands in a nail-biting display of driving skill and raw horsepower. But it was Sunday’s Race 3 that sent shockwaves through the paddock…
After a tense start, O’Rourke, who began in third, unleashed an aggressive charge down the back straight. In a move that brought the crowd to their feet, he muscled his way past veteran Ryan Smith, the reigning champion in a daring overtake at Church Corner. Holding his nerve through the final laps, O’Rourke fended off relentless pressure and crossed the finish line first, punching the air in triumph. This victory marked O’Rourke’s first win of the 2025 season, a long-awaited result following months of setbacks that included engine issues and a pair of heavy crashes that had tested his resolve and rattled his standings. But on Sunday, all of that changed. His performance not only earned him valuable points in the championship table but also sent a clear message: Tom O’Rourke is back in the hunt.
The race weekend also made headlines for its unpredictability with seven different drivers reaching the podium across the events, making it the widest podium spread of the season so far. It’s a sign that the 2025 championship is far from decided and could go down to the wire.
As the engines cool and teams regroup, all eyes now turn to Donington Park in early August, where the next round of the championship awaits. With momentum on his side, fans are already asking: Can Tom O’Rourke go two-for-two and mount a serious title challenge? One thing’s for sure: if Thruxton was anything to go by, the best is yet to come.
