Purpose of the Role

MV Fruehauf is looking for a reliable and detail-oriented Accounts Assistant to join our finance team at our Grantham site.

This is a varied role supporting the accounting function, with responsibility for maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, preparing spreadsheets and journals, and assisting with credit control and customer account management.

The successful candidate will have a good understanding of general accounting principles, strong attention to detail and confidence working with spreadsheets and financial information. Previous experience in an accounts or finance environment is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process sales ledger transactions accurately and efficiently
  • Assist with month-end tasks and updating supporting files and schedules
  • Maintain and update accounting spreadsheets and reports
  • Monitor customer accounts and outstanding balances
  • Carry out credit control, including contacting customers regarding overdue invoices and arranging payment
  • Investigate and resolve account queries, discrepancies and payment issues
  • Assist with credit checks and the setting and monitoring of customer credit limits where required
  • Liaise with customers and internal departments regarding financial queries
  • Provide general administrative support to the finance team as required

About You:

  • Experienced in a general accounts/finance role
  • Confident using Microsoft Excel (multi-tab spreadsheets) including sorting, filtering, basic formulas and data entry
  • Comfortable with transaction processing
  • Experienced in credit control and chasing outstanding payments
  • Numerate, organised and highly accurate
  • Able to investigate discrepancies and resolve problems effectively
  • Confident communicating with customers and colleagues by telephone and email
  • Able to work independently while also contributing positively to a team.
  • Good at managing workloads and meeting deadlines.
  • Professional, reliable and discreet when handling confidential financial information.

Experience & Qualifications

Essential:

  • Previous experience working in an accounts or finance position
  • Practical knowledge of general accounting procedures
  • Experience using Excel/spreadsheets
  • Experience of posting journals and carrying out account reconciliations
  • Experience in credit control and debt collection

Desirable:

  • Experience using accounting/ERP software
  • AAT qualification or working towards an AAT qualification
  • Experience within a manufacturing, engineering, transport or commercial environment

  • Part-Time (20 hours per week/5 day-week), on-site role at Grantham facility
  • Typical hours Monday to Friday; flexibility may be required to support month-end or urgent account issues
