MV Fruehauf is a leading UK trailer engineering and manufacturing company, operating from a large facility in Grantham. The business has undergone significant investment and transformation in recent years, with expansion of product lines, modern fabrication machinery, upgraded facilities, and a growing workforce.
Role Overview
To assemble, install, maintain, and test hydraulic systems on commercial mounted lorry loader vehicles and bodies, ensuring all products meet company quality, safety, and legal standards while supporting efficient production operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Install and assemble hydraulic components including cylinders, pumps, valves, hoses, pipework to power auxiliary equipment mounted to rigid trucks.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, hydraulic schematics, and technical specifications.
- Conduct hydraulic pressure testing, fault-finding, and system inspections.
- Fit mechanical and structural trailer components as required.
- Diagnose and repair hydraulic faults during production and pre-delivery inspections.
- Work closely with welders, fabricators, electricians, and assembly teams.
- Ensure all work complies with health and safety regulations and company procedures.
- Complete quality checks and documentation accurately.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean working environment.
Required Skills & Experience
Essential
- Experience as a Hydraulic Fitter, Mechanical Fitter, Plant Fitter, HGV Fitter, or similar engineering role.
- Knowledge of hydraulic systems, components, and fault diagnosis.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and hydraulic diagrams.
- Competent in the use of hand tools, power tools, and workshop equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and within a team
Desirable
- Experience within trailer manufacturing, commercial vehicles, plant machinery, or agricultural equipment.
- Relevant engineering qualifications (NVQ, City & Guilds, Apprenticeship, etc.).
- Welding or fabrication experience.
- Knowledge of pneumatic system
