Fruehauf is forging ahead with major upgrades to its Grantham manufacturing facility as it invests in the latest automation technologies to boost efficiency, accuracy and long-term innovation across its production processes.
Leading this transformation is Arturas, the company’s Director of Investment and Continuous Improvement. With a deep understanding of modern manufacturing challenges, Arturas brings a fresh energy to the role and a sharp focus on using
smart technology to futureproof operations.
“Everything needs to be very, very precise,” he explains. “It needs to be calibrated and tested and I think that’s the main challenge nowadays. We have AI, we have new software and programmes, and that makes things easier every day. But making the computer match reality that’s the real challenge when we speak about automation.”
The changes at Fruehauf come as part of a wider strategy to optimise quality and productivity, while maintaining the flexibility required to meet the complex demands of customers. For Arturas, understanding when and how to apply automation is key.
“The first question you need to ask is: do I really need to automate that process? If it’s not repeatable, it can be very hard,” he says. “Here at Fruehauf we are a low-volume and very high-complexity producer, so for us, automation is really a challenge itself.”
Despite the hurdles, Arturas is optimistic about the opportunities automation brings — not only in raising production standards, but also in enhancing safety, reducing waste, and building a stronger, more agile business.
This investment in automation marks an exciting chapter for Fruehauf, as the company continues to blend decades of engineering expertise with forward-thinking innovation.
